A paella for one would solve everything. On the terrace of a small restaurant near the Ebro Delta, the narrator contemplates whether to ask the stranger at the next table to share a blue crab paella with her. Perhaps he too is drawn to
the aroma drifting from nearby tables, or maybe he shares her curiosity about this invasive species—just another American import that has overtaken the local way of life, much like rock ‘n’ roll, Halloween… and now, blue crab.

Through interwoven lives, spanning different historical periods and locations—from Barcelona to distant corners of the world—Bonds, Affections, and Chains traces the journeys of characters seeking to reconcile with the past, come to terms with loss, and find their place amidst fractured relationships, unresolved traumas, and buried family secrets.
