A Satirical Thrill Ride Through Crime, Conspiracy, and Chaos
Three guys of dubious reputation visit a villa in a lonely housing estate to tell the squatters who live there that they have until sunset to leave. At sunset, the visitors are dead. One of them found in the arms of the protagonist, who was passing by and who is now the main suspect in the crime. With no home or possessions other than those that fit in his ‘95 Lancia Delta, this poor devil – but fertile in gadgets – will have to dodge police and mafiosi crossing the plain and the mountains to unravel a triple murder, a political conspiracy and a mystery in the heart of the forest, where reality begins to fray.
Amidst this chaos, the protagonist plays the role of a father ashamed of having failed in life, with a son questioning his own identity. The author brilliantly tackles pressing social issues in a way that is incredibly engaging.
Cantero’s unique narrative style blends elements of pulp fiction and surrealism, resulting in a fast-paced, episodic structure filled with frenetic energy and meticulously calculated crescendos. The vivid characters, particularly the flawed yet relatable protagonist, immerse one into a world of chaotic and absurd events that reflect both personal and societal decay.
In vein of Fight Club by Palahniuk, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
by Hunter S. Thompson plus the absurdist tone of Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.
