The Women of la Principal

Publishing date:7 october 2014

Synopsis:

Maria Roderich (“La Vella”), Maria Magí (“La Senyora”) and Maria Costa are the three women who, over the course of almost a century, have run la Principal, the most distinguished manor house in the village of Pous, in the heart of the Abadia winemaking region. All three of them, grandmother, mother and daughter, have made the vineyards flourish, after the phylloxera disaster, through a series of transformations that consolidate the wine business.

But there is a dark spot on la Principal’s history: the murder of a man who was the overseer, on July 18th, 1936. After the war, a police detective determined to solve the case begins an investigation that will lead him to discover the family’s secrets and a web of temperament, passion and power.

Úrsula, the old housekeeper, and Llorenç, the young overseer, turn out to be much more than mere witnesses; they are the keys that link the past and the future of the story told in this brilliant, fast-paced novel.
